Watched The Spiderwick Chronicles on HBO. Less than two decades ago I started collecting its volumes because I liked their artwork, but I stopped at the third.

I enjoyed the movie because it is a good, albeit fictional, introduction to magic, whether the producers intended it to be so or not. One must simply look beyond its elements and interpret them as metaphors for actual magical activities.

I still have the pink and green "seeing stones" that went with every purchase of a Spiderwick volume. They are made of resin and do not work, of course, but I do have three magical, silver rings that can actually be used as "seeing stones" when I want to scan the area around me. My friends freak out when I show them.
