Confused by preferred nouns.

Isn't a person from Florida a Floridan rather than a Floridian, because a person from Uganda is a Ugandan and not a Ugandian?

A person from Bohemia is a Bohemian, but shouldn't a person from the Bahamas be a Bahaman and not a Bahamian?

Are we hung up on the noun Martian?
